VASTA Conferences

Each year, VASTA sponsors a national conference, either just before or immediately following the ATHE national conference, usually in the same host city. Recent Conferences have been in San Francisco, New York City, Chicago, San Antonio, Toronto, Washington D.C., Chicago, San Diego, NYC, Philadelpia, Glasgow Scotland and Chicago yet again.

The 2007 conference, Practical Voice Science: Watch, Learn, Play was held in Denver CO, August 3-7.

Note that this year's conference will not be tied to the ATHE conference, which will be held in New Orleans, LA July 26-29.

In recent years, VASTA conferences have been three and a half to four days in length, and have featured a focus topic, such as 2005's "Crossing the Cultural Divide." Usually an internationally recognized specialist in some area of Voice and Speech is invited to present their work. Previous presenters have included Catherine Fitzmaurice, Jan Gist, Susana Bloch, Arthur Lessac, David Smukler, Kristen Linklater, Patsy Rodenburg, Cicely Berry, and Andrew Wade, among many others. In 2004, VASTA began to give members the opportunity to present at its conferences, and this very successful format will continue in Glasgow.
