stage. Some actors like to get specific notes through opening. Others ask coaches to be more selective - coach as editor. One actor suggested not giving notes to actors on opening night unless solicited. Some actors do not like notes during half hour. Again - develop individual relationships with actors.

ACTOR'S SUGGESTIONS TO COACHES
- Actors know that growth is a never-ending process. Allow time for integration when you give feedback or new information.

- Understand that wrestling with the synthesis of skills and instincts, for some actors, is part of their process.

- Give exercises to stimulate an actor's own creativity in solving vocal issues.

- Remind actors to utilize the acoustic aspects of the set and space.

- Actors appreciate having the vocal coach on their side regarding their vocal health, intervening when necessary.

- Actors appreciate knowing that there's someone in the house listening to them - they want to be heard and understood.

- It's helpful to give notes in IPA and another way. Some actors are embarrassed about not remembering IPA, and others never learned it.

- Some actors prefer specificity in notes; others, a general correction. If uncertain, ask. Discuss options. Actors said they appreciate honesty handled with sensitivity.

- Be aware that some actors want to please the coach, and may not tell you when they are overloaded with notes from both coach and director. This may be more true for actors who have recently completed training.

- Many actors appreciate knowing when they lose their breath support. They said it's helpful to discuss sustaining a thought and suggesting where to breathe.

- "One of the most useful coaching sessions I ever experienced was connecting the inspiration of the breath with the movement of thought and emotion - working with impulses, and how the breath feeds the life of the character and relationships."
