Statement of Philosophy: Teaching young actors how to speak onstage is a bit like teaching people to fix air conditioners and a bit like teaching people to whistle.
To fix air conditioners you need a concrete understanding of the mechanics of a machine and the tools of the trade that will allow that machine to run smoothly even in the most adverse climate. Teaching whistling suggests a scene many of us have experienced as children, where we stand beside the would-be-whistler and practice. We provide hints and encouragement to aid the future whistler. This also suggests a period of failure, a time when it seems the pupil will never be able to get it, but we sit together and blow and blow until one day, at last, we re whistling together.
