Additional Information

Celeste Moratti
she/her
Celeste Moratti was born in Milan, Italy, where she completed her studies in Theoretical Philosophy at the Università Degli Studi; she moved to New York City in 2002, and graduated from the Stella Adler 3-year Conservatory in 2005: her voice training started at Adler under Robert Perillo and Alithea Phillips. Soon after graduation she joined Dario D’Ambrosi’s Teatro Patologico, an integrated theatre company mainly composed of actors with neurodiversities, in the roles of Company member, Assistant Director and Ensemble Coach: among her credits with Teatro Patologico are the title roles in Days of Antonio (La MaMa, NYC and Teatro Quirino, Rome) and in Euripides’ Medea, which recently capped a 8-year world tour with a performance in the U.N.’s ECOSOC chamber for the World’s Day for People with Disabilities. She coached the company in a number of productions, including their most recent NYC appearance in Titus Andronicus at La MaMa, E. T. C. She is an active member of The Living Theatre, Titan Theatre Company, ADK Shakespeare Company, The American Mime Theatre, Hyperion Theatre Company, and in 2015 she founded her own theatre ensemble, First Maria, with which she produced and directed A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hamlet and Macbeth, all of which toured internationally to Teatro Franco Parenti in Milan, Italy after their initial US runs. Her acting film credits include Traffickers, My Mother’s Fairy Tale and L’Uomo Gallo. In 2015 she began her Voice Teacher training with Patsy Rodenburg, and she graduated as a Registered Rodenburg Teacher (RRT) in 2017. She is currently a member of the Voice and Speech faculty at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York City, teaching the 2 year Professional Evening Conservatory Program. She regularly teaches workshops in Milan at Teatro Franco Parenti, and holds private and group coaching sessions in NYC. For info on upcoming workshops, please check www.firstmaria.com

Voice and Speech Faculty, 2021-Present

TEATRO FRANCO PARENTI
“Breath, Language, Rhythm and Presence in the Works of William Shakespeare”, 2017-present: A 3-part craft-building series of intensive workshops, spanning from building the grounds of the craft -body, breath, voice, resonance, articulation- which allow the actors to communicate in heightened language with precision, urgency, presence and grounding breath, thought, need and word in the same instant. Once the basics are worked on, the second level focuses on text interpretation and analysis, and the third level is a full-on production laboratory where an entire play is explored, rehearsed and put on stage for a paying audience of season subscribers. For more informations, please visit Teatro Franco Parenti’s website at https://teatrofrancoparenti.it/archivio/decennio-2010-2019/2019-2020/linguaggio-ritmo-respiro-e-presenza-nel-teatro-di-shakespeare-2019-2020/ (the page is in Italian but it offers the option of an English version)

TEATRO PATOLOGICO
Company member and coach, 2006-present. Founded by Dario D’ambrosi in the mid-eighties in association with Ellen Stewart’s La MaMa, E.T.C., Teatro Patologico is an internationally revered acting academy and professional Ensemble company composed mostly of actors with developmental disabilities and various kinds of neurodiversities: the production process personally involves every member of the company and the work is written and discussed in order speak directly in the voice and from the soul and needs of the performers, whose voice in the world often goes completely unheard. As a company member, assistant director and coach, my task is to get the company ready to explore the power of their own voice, verbal and not -most members are nonverbal-, while individualizing the approach to the different needs of each actor. Together we’ve been working on a range of productions spanning from a world tour of Euripides’ Medea (In Attic Greek), Marat-Sade, Titus Andronicus, Hamlet, Don Quixote and Homer’s Odyssey. For more informations about the company, please visit www.teatropatologico.com

PRIVATE COACHING
I’ve been offering private coaching sessions in NYC and Milan, Italy since 2016; they span from basic Voice, Breath, Alignment and Presence work, to monologue coaching, scene study, warmups and work-outs for professional actors, dancers and singers, and quick tension release and reconnecting techniques for special education teachers and paraprofessionals.
