From President Michael J Barnes

I am thrilled to welcome you to the Voice and Speech Trainers Association’s website. VASTA is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to spreading the word about the voice and speech profession—promoting both the art and science of the human voice.  We both serve the needs of the voice and speech profession and work to advocate for our members. Though we were founded in the United states of  America, our membership now spans the globe with members in North and South America, Asia, Europe, Africa, and Australia/Oceania.  This global outreach of our knowledge of voice and speech through its range of cultures, methodologies, backgrounds, and professional perspectives.

Our hardworking Board of Directors, our energetic officers, and dedicated committees are continually looking for ways to strengthen our organization to better serve our membership. Current VASTA initiatives focus on networking—both globally, interdisciplinary; bringing great visibility of VASTA and the professions surrounding voice, speech, and communication; promoting diversity in the profession; and mentorship and career development.  This organization has been a huge part of my life—giving me training, mentorship, career-shaping opportunities, and a family of like-minded individuals.  It has been my pleasure to give back to it: first as an officer, then on the Board of Directors, and now as president. I hope that you might want to participate in VASTA as well; it may give you the same fulfillment that it has given me.

Please feel free to contact me with questions, ideas or suggestions at president@vasta.org
