Saturday, August 11th - Tuesday, August 14th, 2018.

We are thrilled with the record number of high quality proposals for this collaborative, interdisciplinary conference. To maximize presentation opportunities for both VASTA and PAVA members, we will kick of the conference at 10 am sharp. Registration will open at 8:30am in the Cornish Playhouse lobby and continue throughout the day.

Saturday evening we will be hosting a lively all-conference reception in lobby and courtyard of the Playhouse. A more detailed schedule of events will follow.

Conference Venue: The Cornish Playhouse

201 Mercer Street
Seattle, WA 98109

The VASTA/PAVA 2018 Joint Conference will be held at the Cornish Playhouse, a high-profile entertainment venue maintained and administered by Cornish College of the Arts. The Cornish Playhouse is aptly located in the arts, educational, tourist, and entertainment area known as “Seattle Center.” In addition to the Space Needle, the 74-acre Seattle Center boasts public gathering spaces, museums, landmarks, theatres, and conference centers. The Cornish Playhouse was originally built for the 1962 World’s Fair, and houses a 440-seat main auditorium, a black-box theatre, and an expansive fore- court and lobby. The architecturally unique Playhouse-- located next door to the Seattle Repertory Theatre-- offers quality arts productions in theatre, dance, music, and visual arts. It is the main theatre space for Cornish College of the Arts and all other conference spaces are within the Playhouse as well.

Directions to The Cornish Playhouse are in the Welcome Packet on the VASTA Website.

Featured and Keynote Presenters:

Due to the unique nature of this joint conference, we are pleased to have a bevy of “keynote” expert presenters drawn directly from our own respective organizations, making this truly a member-driven conference!

The Seattle Welcome Packet will provide a discount code for our room block at the Hotel Maxwell, which is two blocks from the conference venue. Seattle is an incredibly expensive and very busy city during August. Airbnb is a more cost-effective option, which is still convenient to the location. We strongly (VERY strongly) suggest you make your room accommodations as soon as possible, as availability will no doubt diminish and prices will increase. Those looking for a super budget-friendly option may look into renting dorm rooms at Seattle University, based on availability. This is approximately a 30-45 minute transit time via bus.

VASTA Identity Cabaret:

Identity Cabaret is an initiative of the VASTA-based Diversity Committee and has been one of the highlights of the VASTA conference for the past four years. This year, we warmly welcome PAVA members to participate and perform in this voluntary, evening event. Judith Shahn will serve as emcee of the cabaret and will organize the performers. If you are interested in performing, please contact Cynthia DeCure at

We are diligently putting together an exciting conference schedule to include podium presentations, scientific papers, workshops and micro workshops. Registration will begin on-site at 8:30am on Saturday, August 11th, and continue throughout the day. Opening remarks and activities will begin at 10am. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday the presentations will begin at 9 am with lunch from 12-1:30. For an overview of the conference schedule, Click Here

This course is offered for 1.95 ASHA CEUs (Intermediate level, Professional area).
