About Business

Lynn Watson has worked extensively as a voice, speech, text and dialects specialist at leading regional theatres. Her credits include Arena Stage (Moon for the Misbegotten-dir. Molly Smith, The Misanthrope, M. Butterfly, A Time to Kill and many others); Kennedy Center productions of The Glass Menagerie (dir. Gregory Mosher), and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (dir. Mark Lamos); Ford’s Theatre; Round House; Maryland Stage Company; Delaware REP; and four seasons with South Coast Repertory in California. Her credits include critically acclaimed productions of A Streetcar Named Desire at A.C.T.-San Francisco and Skylight at the Mark Taper Forum in LA.


​She also teaches acting and directs. She directed a radio play/podcast of The Basset Table by Susanna Centlivre. It was the debut presentation in a project to produce via podcast and shine a spotlight on public domain plays by female-identifying playwrights. Additional directing credits include the world premiere of the short play Milk and Water by Tina Howe. She is a Professor of Theatre at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC).


Lynn's acting credits include Off Broadway at the American Place Theatre and performances at the Los Angeles Theatre Center. She has toured nationally and played leading classical roles in regional theatre.


  • Her writing, articles, and editorial contributions have appeared in the Journal of Voice, Voice & Speech Review (VSR), Acting Now, Teaching Breathing, Complete Voice and Speech Workout, and IDEA (International Dialects of English Archive). Her current research involves examining the cognitive effects of Fitzmaurice Voicework. She is a recipient of the Dudley Knight Award for Outstanding Vocal Scholarship” given by the Voice and Speech Review for the co-authored article, "Fitzmaurice Voicework Pilot Study with fMRI."


Professional affiliations: AEA, SAG-AFTRA, Voice and Speech Trainers Association (Past President and board member), and Fitzmaurice Voicework (Lead Teacher certification).
