Call for Action Proposals
ATHE’s Voice and Speech Trainers Association (VASTA) Focus Group:
Deadline: March 28th, 2024, Abstract and Ideas.

The Voice and Speech Trainers Association (VASTA) Focus Group of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE) announces its call for the VASTA at ATHE Debut Panel for the 2024 ATHE conference in Atlanta, Georgia, August 1-4.
Debut Panelists will receive complimentary registration to ATHE 2024!
VASTA membership is strongly recommended.
Guidelines:
Submissions are open to emerging scholars (including graduate students), artists, and practitioners, who have not presented at a previous ATHE conference on a topic related to theatrical voice and speech.
Proposals may cover short presentations, manifestos, hands-on voice, and speech exercises and demonstrations, paper topics, pedagogy lessons, and practice-based research that total about 20 minutes each. Entries may not be cross-submitted to another ATHE panel for the 2024 conference. Scholars may, however, present or serve on other panels at the conference.
Submissions may speak to any area within the purview of the VASTA Focus Group, which include (but are not limited to) voice for the actor, heightened text work, dialect coaching, breath and impulse, singing, integrating voice and acting methods, voice and movement, voice and speech for social justice, accessibility-equity-diversity-inclusion within voice and speech, etc..
For consideration, please e-mail an abstract of no more than 250 words (Word or PDF format) of your concept/description to Irene Alby, VASTA at ATHE Conference Planner, at ialby@vasta.org, and Santi Sosa, Assistant Conference Planner, at smsosa@uab.edu, by March 28th, 2024. Presentations will be selected by a review committee for inclusion on this panel. We will give special consideration to those submissions which exemplify ATHE’s Call for Action-oriented panels which center equity, empathy, and historically marginalized voices.
