An immersive journey into breath, voice, body, image and language.  Discover new pathways to re-awaken and enhance your vocal and physical presence. At the center of the practices is the invitation to restore. You will revitalize and expand your responsiveness, resonance and range. The supportive and dynamic environment will inspire inquiry and imagination.

During the five days, you will have opportunities to: 

- discover new dimensions of your unique breath, body and voice 
- consciously re-align unnecessary effort into easeful responsiveness 
- tap into the potential of your vocal and physical imagination 
- explore integrated approaches to physical, vocal, and text practices 
- enrich your moment-to-moment relationship to self, to your rehearsal partners and to your audience 

Actors and advanced acting students are invited to renew and revitalize their craft. Directors and playwrights will experience the actor’s process through innovative sensory practices. Dancers and movers will increase their performance range as they discover the resonance of their voices. Voice teachers will acquire approaches to enrich their teaching.

The Toronto Voice Intensive offers time and space to engage your curiosity, journey deeply into the connection of the body the voice and the word, and explore your potential in performance. Immerse yourself in daily practice of movement, breath, resonance, rhythm and range to awaken, restore and revitalize your creative sources. The first two weeks will focus on the foundations of vocal and physical practice as well as enlivening your engagement with language and text. The third week provides the opportunity to deepen your relationship to resonance, range and power and explore the potency of your presence with your text and scene partner. You will have the opportunity to work with a Shakespeare monologue and scene from one of this year’s 3 plays for both the two and three week format.

The voice intensive invites you into a responsive and inclusive environment and rigorous, innovative performance research in which to develop your unique voice. As a participant, you are guaranteed to leave with plenty of answers, invigorating questions, refined skills and an energized personal practice that supports your professional goals and artistic process.

The Complete 5 Day Course in the Estill Model presented by one of Estill Voice International's most experienced teachers and presenters. This five day course will comprise the essential Estill Model information, Level 1 (13 Figures) and Level 2 (6 Voice Qualities) and will also include a short course on Diction, anatomy & physiology and a vocal health session. The daily schedule will consist of lecture presentations, video research, audio & video examples, as well as teaching and training tips.

Participants will divide into small practice groups throughout the day to receive coaching in the Figures & Voice Qualities. There will also be an Open Session in the evening which provides participants with an opportunity to sing a song or do a speech and receive expert coaching from Anne-Marie. Please note, there is not a requirement for everyone to get up during the Open Session but it is added as an invaluable opportunity to see the work applied.

Phonetics Intensive

This intensive three-day workshop for actors, voice/speech teachers, clinicians, and coaches will offer focused instruction on narrow phonetic transcription, consistent with the approach laid out in Dudley Knight’s Speaking with Skill and the six-day Experiencing Speech workshops. Knight-Thompson Speechwork places special emphasis on the physical actions that produce speech sounds, and this intensive is designed to develop participants skills in hearing, modeling, and transcribing these sounds.

Experiencing Speech is a prerequisite for the Phonetics Intensive.
Three days
~Awareness and practice of precise articulation action.
~Producing and recognizing all the sounds in language.
~Practice with detailed (narrow) IPA phonetic transcription.
~Practice reading phonetic transcription
~Detailed instruction and practice with IPA diacritics, including those found on the “Extended” IPA chart.
~The use of technology (software, apps) to manipulate speech samples for transcription.

This workshop is for those who have taken Experiencing Speech and/or Experiencing Accents and are looking to improve their transcription skills and mastery of descriptive phonetics.
