Abbey is an Assistant Professor of Theatre at Brevard College. She teaches Acting for Stage and Camera, Voice and Speech, Movement, Script Analysis and Directing. Abbey earned her Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Performance from the University of Evansville and her MFA in Acting from the University of California, Irvine. She is a certified Miller Voice Method instructor and a faculty member for MVM teachers in training. She previously taught at Elon University, USCB, UNC Chapel Hill and UC Irvine, and has been a private voice coach for actors, singers and public speakers. Abbey has been an actor, director and teaching artist in Chicago and North Carolina for over 12 years, and she spent two years as the Company Manager for PlayMakers Repertory in Chapel Hill. She completed Theatrical Intimacy Education's Education Advocate Program and serves as Intimacy Director/Choreographer for Brevard College Theatre and the faculty directing mentor for student directed shows. In addition to teaching at Brevard, she continues to act, direct, teach teachers, and serve as a member of VASTA (Voice and Speech Trainers Association). Her primary aims include helping students develop self-awareness, cultivate curiosity and communicate human behavior through story.
